In Disa, Gujarat, a special tree planting event took place. The event was part of the ‘One Tree for Every Mother’ campaign. It also marked the birthday of local MLA Praveenbhai Malani, celebrated as ‘Green Day’. The initiative was supported by the Banaskantha Social Forestry Department and involved community participation.
On a 5-hectare plot in Gugal village, a total of 11,000 local tree saplings of 25 different varieties were planted. The event also included the distribution of books to schoolgirls, promoting education and environmental awareness.
During the event, MLA Praveenbhai Malani spoke about the government’s welfare schemes for farmers. He highlighted a plan that offers farmers a subsidy of up to ₹3 lakh to create farm ponds, which has greatly benefited them. He also mentioned the provision of additional electricity connections for farmers who irrigate their fields with rainwater. This enables farmers in Banaskantha to cultivate using ponds and farm reservoirs.
Malani urged everyone to work together to make the ‘One Tree for Every Mother’ campaign a success. He announced that a total of 21,000 trees would be planted in the Disa region, with Gugal being a significant site for the initiative.
After the planting, he emphasized the importance of caring for the trees. He encouraged people to write their family’s name on the trees they planted to take responsibility for their growth. He shared an example from the previous year, where 15,000 trees were planted in Malgarh, which have now grown into a thriving forest.
Malani stressed the need for protecting nature and urged farmers to avoid using harmful pesticides. He called for more efforts in promoting natural farming, farm ponds, water recharge, and tree planting. He invited attendees to plant a tree in honour of his birthday, reinforcing the message of environmental conservation.
This initiative reflects a growing awareness and commitment to environmental sustainability in Gujarat. Such campaigns not only enhance greenery but also strengthen community bonds. They engage citizens in taking active roles in environmental conservation efforts, ensuring a healthier planet for future generations.
