In a significant ruling, 36 individuals were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Diwodhar Sessions Court in Gujarat. On September 25, 2002, Ganeshaji Vardhaji Patel attempted to sell his farmland. During this process, members of one group attacked the other with deadly weapons. This violent confrontation led to the deaths of two men: Walaji Zhalaji Thakor and Chainaji Vihaji Thakor.
Both parties filed complaints at the Agathala police station. Initially, the case was heard in the Palanpur Sessions Court, then it moved to the Disa Sessions Court before finally being transferred to the Diwodhar Sessions Court in 2015. After extensive arguments and deliberations, the court delivered its historic verdict.
The court found 23 individuals guilty in the murder of Walaji Zhalaji Thakor. They were sentenced to life imprisonment and fined a total of ₹2 lakh. Similarly, in the case of Chainaji Vihaji Thakor’s murder, 17 individuals received life sentences and were fined ₹1.68 lakh.
Out of the 40 accused, four have since passed away. The convicted individuals include names such as Ashokji Chainaji Thakor, Gagaji Vihaji Thakor, Hansaji Jodhaji Thakor, and many others. This verdict has brought a sense of closure to the families affected by the tragic events of 2002.
