92 DNA Samples Matched in Ahmedabad Plane Crash Tragedy

A tragic plane crash occurred in Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025, involving an Air India flight bound for London. The aircraft crashed in the Meghninar area, resulting in the loss of 241 lives, with only one survivor. Dr. Rajneesh Patel, head of the surgery department at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, announced that DNA samples from 92 victims have been matched with those of their families. So far, 47 bodies have been handed over to their relatives.

In a media briefing, Dr. Patel shared that the identification process is ongoing. In addition to the 47 bodies already returned, another eight families are expected to receive their loved ones’ remains within the next two hours. Currently, 13 family members are present at the hospital, waiting for the respectful return of their deceased.

Among the victims, 12 families are waiting for the identification results of additional relatives to accept their loved ones’ remains together. Meanwhile, 11 families are discussing the acceptance of the bodies with their relatives.

The tragic incident has deeply affected families across several districts, including Kheda, Ahmedabad, Botad, Mehsana, Bharuch, Aravalli, Vadodara, Junagadh, Anand, Mahisagar, Gandhinagar, and Bhavnagar. The local government is providing support to grieving families through a dedicated team consisting of a senior officer, a police officer, and a professional counselor for each victim’s family.

The emotional toll on the families is immense. Many attended the funerals, shedding tears and paying their last respects. A green corridor was established for the efficient transport of the bodies, utilising 108 ambulances and police vehicles to ensure the deceased were returned with dignity.

The chief minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, offered condolences and paid tribute to the victims. He was present during the handover of the remains, ensuring that each family received their loved one with the honour they deserved.

The state has been shaken by the news, especially with the unexpected loss of former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who was also a passenger on the ill-fated flight. His body was returned with full state honours, reflecting the profound respect he commanded.

The crash has raised questions about aviation safety in India and has led to calls for stricter regulations and improved emergency response measures. The government has promised a thorough investigation into the incident to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Families continue to mourn their losses, with many expressing their grief publicly. Local leaders and community members have come together to support those impacted by this disaster, highlighting the strength and unity of the community during these challenging times. The emotional scars of this tragedy will last long, but the community’s support offers some comfort to those who have lost loved ones.
