In a recent incident, an accused in a serious POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case escaped from police custody at LG Hospital in Maninagar, Ahmedabad. This escape has raised serious concerns among senior police officials. The accused, identified as Jayasukh Vaghela, was one of four individuals apprehended by the Amraiwadi police. They were taken to LG Hospital for a medical check-up after a patient’s death in the hospital caused a commotion among relatives. During this chaos, Jayasukh managed to slip away from the police’s sight.
On May 31, the Amraiwadi police station registered a case against four individuals, including Valji Solanki, Ramila Solanki, Jayasukh Vaghela, and Kesarben Vaghela, under the POCSO Act. The police had arrested all four of them earlier in connection with the case. Before presenting them in a special POCSO court, they were taken to the hospital for a medical check-up as part of the legal procedure.
The incident unfolded when the police, led by Head Constable Arvindbhai Bababhai, took the accused to the hospital. Accompanying them were Constable Sanjay and female police officer Hetalben. While Sanjay parked the police vehicle, Arvindbhai and Hetalben escorted the accused into the hospital’s trauma ward for examination.
As the doctor began examining the accused, relatives of the deceased patient gathered, creating a tense atmosphere. The relatives were grieving loudly, which attracted a crowd in the hospital. In this confusion, Jayasukh, who was sitting next to the doctor, took advantage of the moment. While the police were distracted, he quickly exited the ward and disappeared.
Once the crowd dispersed, Arvindbhai noticed that Jayasukh was missing. The police immediately began searching the vicinity, but he was nowhere to be found. Head Constable Arvindbhai then filed a complaint at the Maninagar police station regarding Jayasukh’s escape.
The escape of an accused facing serious charges has prompted higher authorities to take this matter seriously. The remaining three accused were sent to Central Jail after the incident. This situation highlights the need for improved security measures when handling high-risk individuals in police custody, especially in public places like hospitals.
Such incidents not only undermine the law enforcement agency’s credibility but also raise questions about the procedures in place for the transportation of accused individuals. Police officials are now reviewing the protocols for escorting prisoners to ensure that such an incident does not occur again in the future. In conclusion, the escape of Jayasukh Vaghela serves as a reminder of the challenges law enforcement faces in ensuring public safety and the importance of maintaining strict security measures during custody transfers.
