In a shocking incident, a suspect in a serious POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case escaped police custody at LG Hospital in Maninagar, Ahmedabad. The escape happened during a medical check-up, raising concerns among higher authorities.
On May 31, the Amraiwadi police had arrested four individuals related to a POCSO case. They were taken for a medical examination at LG Hospital. Unfortunately, while there, a commotion broke out due to a patient’s death, leading to a crowd gathering. Taking advantage of this chaotic situation, one of the accused, identified as Jaysukh, managed to slip away from the watchful eyes of the police officers.
Head Constable Arvind Bhai, who was escorting the suspects, filed a complaint at Maninagar police station about the escape. The police had detained four individuals: Valji Solanki, Ramila Solanki, Jaysukh Vaghela, and Kesarben Vaghela, under the POCSO Act. They were supposed to be presented in a special POCSO court after their medical check-up.
The police had received permission from the station in-charge to take all four suspects out of the lock-up for this purpose. While Head Constable Arvind Bhai, Constable Sanjay, and a woman officer, Hetalben, were at the hospital, Constable Sanjay went to park the police vehicle. This left the other officers with the suspects inside the hospital.
During the examination, the doctor questioned the police officer about the suspects. At that moment, Jaysukh was sitting next to the doctor, while Ramila, Jaysukh, and Kesar were standing near Head Constable Arvind Bhai. The situation escalated when relatives of the deceased patient began crying, and a crowd formed. In the midst of this, Jaysukh seized the opportunity and escaped from the ward unnoticed.
When Head Constable Arvind Bhai realised that Jaysukh was missing, he immediately began searching the area but could not locate him. The escape has raised alarm among police officials, who are now investigating how such a serious breach of security occurred. The remaining three suspects were promptly sent to central jail after the incident.
The POCSO Act is designed to protect children from sexual offences. The seriousness of the case makes the escape of one of the accused particularly concerning for the safety of the community. High-ranking police officials have taken note of the incident and are looking into the measures that can be improved to prevent such occurrences in the future.
This incident highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining custody of suspects, especially in high-stakes situations like medical examinations. It underscores the necessity for stricter security protocols in hospitals when police are escorting individuals charged with serious crimes. The authorities have been urged to ensure that the escape does not compromise the ongoing investigation into the POCSO case, as well as to capture the fugitive as soon as possible.
The police have launched a manhunt for Jaysukh and are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward. They are determined to bring him back into custody to face the charges against him. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance in law enforcement and the need for effective systems to ensure public safety.
