Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has started the second phase of demolition at Chandola Lake today. This initiative aims to remove illegal encroachments covering over 250,000 square meters. The decision was made during a meeting attended by high-ranking officials from the municipal corporation and the city police, led by the Police Commissioner.
Chandola Lake has become a hub for illegal activities and unauthorized settlements, particularly involving Bangladeshi citizens. Officials report that this area has been a center for such activities for a long time. In a previous campaign, approximately 150,000 square meters of illegal structures were removed.
In the current phase of demolition, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation plans to clear around 250,000 square meters of illegal constructions. To facilitate this operation, over 3,000 police personnel, including 25 teams from the State Reserve Police, have been deployed. Their role is to maintain security and ensure that the demolition work proceeds smoothly without any disruptions.
Municipal officials estimate that with the extent of current encroachments, the demolition may take two to three days to complete. It is essential to note that the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is also planning to provide alternative housing for those affected by the demolitions.
