Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) recently marked World Hypertension Day with various health programs. This day, observed on May 17, aims to raise awareness about hypertension and its prevention. The AMC’s health department organized activities at health and wellness centers across the city, including urban health centers and community health centers.
The initiative is part of the NP-NCD program launched by the Indian government. This program targets non-communicable diseases among individuals aged 30 and above. Under this program, AMC conducts screenings, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-ups for citizens. The screening results are recorded online on the NP-NCD web portal.
On May 17, 2025, AMC set up screening camps at various locations, including Sardar Patel Bhavan and other health offices. During these camps, over 470 citizens received screenings for non-communicable diseases. Additionally, community health centers and urban health centers screened more than 2,500 citizens throughout the day.
In addition to screenings, the event also featured yoga sessions. Over 1,200 citizens participated in these sessions, promoting both physical and mental well-being. The AMC also organized health talks and awareness rallies to educate the public about hypertension. These activities aimed to inform citizens about the risks associated with high blood pressure and the importance of regular health check-ups.
Hypertension is often called a silent killer because it usually shows no symptoms. If left untreated, it can lead to serious health issues such as heart disease and stroke. The AMC’s efforts on World Hypertension Day are crucial in helping citizens understand their health and encouraging them to take preventive measures.
The response from the community was positive, with many expressing gratitude for the screening services provided. This outreach by the AMC reflects its commitment to enhancing public health and ensuring that citizens have access to important health services.
In conclusion, World Hypertension Day serves as a reminder of the importance of awareness and prevention in managing hypertension. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s initiative is a step in the right direction, promoting health and wellness among its citizens. Regular check-ups and healthy lifestyle choices can make a significant difference in managing blood pressure and overall health.
