Ahmedabad Civil Hospital continues its remarkable journey of organ donation, showing its commitment to saving lives. Recently, on June 29, the hospital marked its 198th organ donation. This achievement highlights the dedicated efforts of the hospital staff in providing new life to those in need through organ transplants.
The story began with Golapibehan Bishwas, a resident of Uttar Dinajpur in West Bengal. She suffered from heart issues and was admitted to Ratlam J.D. Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, her condition worsened, and on May 23, 2025, a CT scan revealed a brain hemorrhage. Her family took her to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for further treatment on June 25, 2025.
After more than 72 hours of intensive care, doctors declared her brain dead on June 28, 2025. The organ donation team at the hospital counselled her family about the situation. Her son, Ashokbhai, agreed to donate his mother’s organs.
As a result, one liver and two kidneys were successfully transplanted into patients at the Civil Medical City Kidney Hospital. Additionally, two corneas were donated and accepted by the M and J Eye Hospital.
Since its inception, Ahmedabad Civil Hospital has received organs from a total of 198 donors, contributing to 648 organs donated to those in need. This includes 173 livers, 360 kidneys, 13 pancreas, 62 hearts, 32 lungs, 6 hands, and 2 small intestines. The hospital’s skin bank has also received 21 skin donations.
Dr Rakesh Joshi, the Superintendent of the Civil Hospital, stated that with the 198th organ donation, they have been able to give a new lease on life to 629 individuals. The continuous efforts of the hospital staff reflect their unwavering commitment to organ donation and their desire to make a difference in the lives of many.
Organ donation is a vital part of healthcare, providing a second chance for those suffering from organ failure. The hospital’s success in achieving such a high number of donations emphasizes the importance of awareness and support for organ donation initiatives.
In conclusion, the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital stands as a beacon of hope for many, demonstrating how selfless acts can save lives. The story of Golapibehan Bishwas and her family’s decision to donate her organs will inspire others to consider becoming organ donors, ensuring that more lives can be saved in the future.
