In Ahmedabad, a new housing scheme has been announced under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. This scheme aims to help low-income families buy their own homes. The scheme will provide over 1,000 houses in various locations across the city, specifically targeted at the Economically Weaker Section (EWS).
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel recently reviewed the progress of this project, along with several other high-priority projects worth over ₹18,000 crores. During the meeting, he emphasized the importance of completing these projects on time and maintaining high standards of quality.
The EWS scheme is designed for families with an annual income of less than ₹3 lakhs. It will offer housing units in Naroda Muthiya, Hanspura, and Gota areas. A total of 1,055 houses will be built in these locations. The application process for these houses started on March 15, 2024, and will continue until May 13, 2024.
The houses will be priced at ₹5,50,000, with an additional maintenance charge of ₹50,000. Therefore, beneficiaries will need to pay a total of ₹6,00,000. Each house will have a carpet area between 35 square meters and 40 square meters. To apply, interested families must visit the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s website.
The application process requires candidates to fill out an online form and submit a deposit of ₹7,500. Once selected through a computerized draw, beneficiaries will need to pay 20% of the total amount within three months of notification. The remaining 80% will be paid in ten equal installments, typically over a year.
This project aims to improve the living conditions of many families in Ahmedabad by providing them with affordable housing. The government has promised attractive features for these homes, including modern designs, earthquake-resistant construction, and eco-friendly amenities like solar panels.
Moreover, the Chief Minister has instructed senior officials to ensure that these projects progress smoothly. Regular field visits and updates will be made to monitor the development of the housing units. This is part of a broader effort to enhance the infrastructure and living standards in Gujarat.
In addition to the EWS housing project, the Chief Minister reviewed several other key projects, such as the Surat-Vapi deep-sea pipeline and the development of fishing harbours in Bhavnagar. The government is committed to driving development in the state and aims to complete all projects efficiently.
The EWS housing initiative not only reflects the government’s commitment to providing housing for the poor but also showcases a concerted effort to improve the overall quality of life for residents in Ahmedabad. With these new homes, many families will finally have the opportunity to own a house and build a better future for themselves. The application process is essential for those looking to benefit from this scheme, and the government encourages all eligible families to apply before the deadline.
