In a recent incident in Ahmedabad, police arrested a man for using counterfeit currency while posing as a journalist. This case highlights ongoing concerns about fake journalists causing trouble in the community. The man, identified as Jigar Rajendrakumar Shah, was caught in the Vadaj area with fake 500 rupee notes. He had printed these notes using a colour printer at his home in Naranpura.
For several days, Shah had been using these fake notes at local tea and snack shops. He would buy items worth 50 to 60 rupees and pay with the counterfeits, receiving real notes in return. Shah presented himself as a respectable journalist, which allowed him to deceive shopkeepers easily.
On June 10, police received a message about a man using fake currency at the Jay Ambe snack centre. Officers arrived and found Shah sitting in the shop. Upon examining the 500 rupee note he had given to the shopkeeper, they quickly realised it was fake. Further questioning revealed that he had 24 additional counterfeit notes hidden on him.
Shah had previously tried to use fake notes at the same snack centre two times before. After the shopkeeper noticed suspicious activity, he began paying closer attention to the cash being used. The police also found that Shah had printed multiple series of these notes, indicating this was not a one-time incident.
During interrogation, Shah claimed to be a photographer by profession. However, his actions suggest a more fraudulent intent. Police have seized all the counterfeit notes and other materials related to the crime. Shah has been taken into custody, and legal proceedings are underway.
This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges posed by counterfeiters and the need for vigilance among shopkeepers and citizens alike. The police have urged the public to remain cautious and report any suspicious behaviour.
As the situation unfolds, authorities are working hard to address the issue of fake currency and the people who misuse journalism to commit crimes. This case is just one of many that highlight the importance of integrity in the media and the need for continued efforts to combat fraud in all its forms.
