In the aftermath of the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, authorities are working tirelessly to prevent the spread of infection. Five days after the incident, a team from the municipal corporation is using sodium hypochlorite to disinfect the crash site. Over 40 engineers and workers are involved in the cleanup, wearing masks and gloves to ensure safety.
On Monday morning, municipal teams found the cockpit voice recorder while clearing debris from the wreckage. This recorder is crucial for the ongoing investigations led by Air India and international agencies. By Monday evening, DNA matching had been completed for 119 bodies, with 76 of them already handed over to families. To assist relatives during this difficult time, death certificates, post-mortem reports, and insurance documents are being provided. However, many families are still struggling to get information about their loved ones’ bodies.
DNA testing is complex and requires a skilled team. For this task, 54 specialists, including 24 women, have been assigned. Gujarat’s Home Minister has noted that some of these women are mothers of toddlers, emphasizing the urgency of the DNA testing process following the disaster.
The crash occurred on June 12, shortly after the Air India flight took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, bound for London. The aircraft, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, collided with a medical college campus, resulting in a horrific fire. In total, 265 lives were lost, including 241 passengers on the plane and 24 individuals on the ground.
Shockingly, the crash had been predicted by an astrologer last year, suggesting that such an event would occur in 2025. This prediction has sparked a lot of discussions online, especially since the incident has left the entire nation in grief.
The investigation continues, with many valuable items being recovered from the crash site, including gold and cash. Remarkably, a Bhagavad Gita was found unharmed amid the wreckage. Eyewitness Raju Patel was one of the first responders, arriving at the scene just five minutes after the crash. He and local residents helped in rescue efforts, despite the intense heat from the fire. Raju recalled that emergency services struggled to reach the site initially due to the flames.
Once the fire was under control, Raju and his team worked late into the night to assist victims and locate their belongings among the debris. They discovered gold jewellery weighing over 70 tolas (more than 800 grams), cash amounting to ₹80,000, and important documents, which were handed over to the police.
As the investigation unfolds, families continue to seek closure and answers regarding the crash. The authorities are determined to thoroughly investigate the causes of the accident to prevent such tragedies in the future. The community in Ahmedabad has rallied together to support the victims’ families, showing resilience in the face of this heartbreaking disaster.
