Ahmedabad’s Crime Branch has made a significant drug bust on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Express Highway. On October 26, police arrested two individuals with a large quantity of MD drugs, estimated to be worth ₹52.5 lakh. The arrested men were identified as Ajay Prajapati and Anandi Damar, both residents of Madhya Pradesh.
The police acted on a tip-off regarding the drug trafficking. During the operation, they seized 525 grams of a banned substance, which was found in two packets. Ajay had the drugs in a bag, while Anandi had another packet hidden in her purse.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that the drugs were allegedly sent from Mandsaur by a person known as Kalu. The intended recipient was a man named Shah Rukh, based in Vatva, Ahmedabad. The Crime Branch team intercepted Ajay and Anandi as they arrived to deliver the drugs.
In addition to the drugs, police also confiscated a mobile phone, an identification card, train tickets, and ₹2,320 in cash from Ajay. Anandi was found with her mobile phone and an Aadhaar card. Forensic officials confirmed that the seized substances were indeed MD drugs.
Both accused have been booked under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of Ahmedabad police to combat drug trafficking in the region.
Recently, Ahmedabad has seen a rise in drug-related activities, along with incidents of chain snatching and theft. In response, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch has launched special campaigns to curb illegal activities.
As part of their initiative, police have also been seizing abandoned vehicles that may be linked to criminal activities. In the past two days alone, over 165 vehicles have been confiscated. The Crime Branch is analyzing these vehicles to determine if they were involved in any crimes.
Officials are urging residents to report any abandoned vehicles in their neighborhoods. A dedicated phone number has been set up for people to provide information anonymously, and rewards will be offered for tips that lead to significant findings. This proactive approach aims to enhance community safety and reduce crime rates in Ahmedabad.
