Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has successfully saved ₹5 crore through changes in the tender process for its Garden Department. The changes were approved by the Standing Committee, led by Chairman Devang Dhanani. The new approach aims to enhance financial management while supporting local development in the city.
The AMC’s Garden Department had initially planned to purchase saplings and maintain them under a single tender. This plan would have incurred an expense of ₹12.5 crore. However, the Standing Committee expressed concerns that this could lead to financial losses for the city’s treasury.
In response, the committee decided to split the work into two separate orders: one for the purchase of saplings and another for maintenance. This separation will save the corporation around 18% in Goods and Services Tax (GST), amounting to ₹14 crore in total.
Moreover, the AMC is looking to revise tax exemptions for vehicles purchased by disabled individuals. Under the current policy, disabled persons enjoy tax exemption only once when buying a vehicle. The Municipal Tax Department is set to modify this policy to allow multiple exemptions, benefiting those who may need to purchase more than one vehicle over time.
In addition to these financial changes, the AMC is also investing in infrastructure for the community. A new living room and a civic center are planned for the Vasna ward, with a budget of ₹2.90 crore. This building will include facilities such as a city civic room and library, along with toilets on the ground floor. The first floor will accommodate a living room for 112 students and an e-library, providing essential educational resources for the community.
Furthermore, in the Chandkheda area, the AMC is set to construct a modern school at a cost of ₹4.75 crore. This school will feature 24 classrooms, each capable of accommodating 40 students. Additional facilities will include a computer lab, library, and sanitation blocks. These projects aim to enhance educational infrastructure and support the growing population of Ahmedabad.
Overall, these developments reflect the AMC’s commitment to improving the city’s financial health while also investing in community welfare and education. The changes in the tender process and tax policies for disabled individuals are expected to provide significant benefits to the city’s residents.
Ahmedabad continues to evolve as a modern city, balancing economic growth with social responsibility. As these projects unfold, they will not only save money but also create a better living environment for all citizens.
