Ahmedabad to Build Urban House for Citizens’ Convenience

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is set to construct an ‘Urban House’ to improve services for citizens. The project will cost ₹96 crores and aims to provide various municipal services in one location. Devang Dhanani, the chairman of the Municipal Standing Committee, explained that this facility will centralise services like town planning, development permissions, and land allocation.

The Urban House will have features such as parking and storage. Citizens will be able to access essential documents and approvals, including zoning certificates and building permissions, all from one place. This effort is meant to make processes simpler and more efficient for residents.

The Urban House will be located in the Navrangpura ward, near the N.C.C. Circle on the road to the city hospital. It will cover an area of 26,360 square meters with two basements and ten floors. The building will include offices for various municipal departments, a training centre, and facilities for public use.

AMC plans to implement modern facilities to enhance citizen services. This Urban House is expected to benefit residents greatly by providing a single-window system for all their municipal needs. This means that all departments related to estate and city planning will be housed in one location.

In the last three years, the combined revenue from city development and planning departments has been significant. This includes ₹1,170 crores in 2022-2023 and an estimated ₹2,765 crores in 2024-2025. The Urban House is projected to be completed in approximately 2.5 years.

The design of the building aims for a Platinum rating from the Indian Green Building Council. This involves using sustainable materials and implementing features like solar energy generation and rainwater harvesting.

Overall, the Urban House represents a major step forward in making Ahmedabad a more citizen-friendly city. By consolidating services, the AMC hopes to reduce waiting times and improve overall satisfaction for the residents. The project highlights the commitment of the municipal corporation to modernise and enhance urban living in Ahmedabad.
