Air India Plane Crash: Identifying Victims and Supporting Families

On June 12, a tragic Air India plane crash occurred in Ahmedabad, causing the loss of many lives. In response, the state government has initiated a rapid identification process for the victims, ensuring that their families receive the deceased’s bodies as quickly as possible. The health department and administrative authorities are working together in this sensitive task, which includes DNA sample matching to confirm identities.

After the crash, the government established a verification centre at Civil Hospital in D2 Block. This centre handles all the verification processes for the victims’ families. When families arrive to claim their loved ones, their identities are confirmed here. Once verification is complete, the bodies are prepared for handover in the mortuary.

Families waiting in the designated area are assisted by a team of medical professionals and counselors. This team explains the entire process to the families and provides them with necessary documents related to the deceased. Once the mortuary completes the necessary procedures, family members are escorted to collect the bodies.

A dedicated team has been assigned to assist each family throughout the entire process. This team consists of healthcare workers, a senior officer, a police representative, and a professional counselor. They ensure that all needs of the families are met during this difficult time.

While handing over the bodies, the families receive important documents. These include the death certificate, accident death case report, police investigation details, post-mortem notes, and the DNA matching report. Additionally, any personal belongings found on the deceased, such as jewellery, are also returned to the families.

The state government has arranged for 192 ambulances and a team of 591 members, including doctors and assistants, to facilitate the transportation of the deceased to their homes. A help desk has also been set up at BJ Medical College to support affected families, providing coordination for various arrangements, including transport and accommodation.

In these challenging times, the administration is making every effort to support the families affected by the tragedy. They are ensuring that families can easily access the necessary services, such as sampling arrangements at the Civil Hospital, transportation from the airport, and assistance with lodging and food.

The situation remains fluid as the investigation into the crash continues. The Civil Aviation Ministry has also held high-level meetings to discuss the incident. The black box from the plane has been recovered, which could provide valuable information about the circumstances leading to the crash. Authorities are committed to uncovering the truth behind this tragic event and ensuring that such incidents do not happen in the future.

As the community mourns the loss of lives, support is being offered to the victims’ families. The government is dedicated to providing assistance during this challenging time, as the families navigate their grief and work to understand what happened. The focus remains on compassion, care, and ensuring that the families of the victims are treated with the utmost respect and support as they deal with their loss.
