Residents claim that the Chairman of the Encroachment Committee in the BJP-run municipality has been involved in illegal encroachments. Despite complaints sent to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the local administration has not acted against these encroachments.
Local citizens have voiced their concerns regarding the unauthorized constructions in Ward Number 2, specifically in the Valmikipura area. A grant of over 1 crore rupees has been allocated for building a new road. However, the encroachments made by Naresh Rana, the local corporator and Chairman of the Encroachment Committee, have made the public road narrow and difficult to use. Residents report that antisocial activities are taking place along both sides of this public road, causing significant inconvenience, especially for the women of Shivnagar.
One local resident has even submitted a written complaint to the Chief Minister, but officials from the municipality seem unresponsive to the issues raised. The public road is supposed to be 90 feet wide, but illegal constructions have reduced its accessibility. While the government is taking strong action against illegal encroachments elsewhere in Gujarat, residents feel that the same rules do not apply to local leaders.
The situation raises questions about the integrity of local governance in Palanpur. The Chief Minister’s bulldozers are said to be destroying illegal structures in some areas, yet the same action is not being taken against encroachments led by local officials. This discrepancy has led to frustration among the citizens who feel ignored.
In a separate development, Palanpur Municipality has finally received approval for its development plan after 21 years of waiting. The town’s development plan is expected to boost progress in the area, according to Kavita Ben Prajapati, the Chairman of the Town Planning Committee. She expressed gratitude towards the Chief Minister and local politicians for their support in getting the plan approved, which includes considerations for the town’s geography and local needs.
As the construction of the new road continues, residents are demanding the removal of the illegal encroachments before the road can be completed. They are hopeful that their voices will be heard and that the local government will take swift action to resolve the ongoing issues. The people of Palanpur are eager for improvements in their town, but they want these changes to happen fairly and legally.
