Allegations of Irregularities in Gujarat Home Guard Exam

In Gujarat, serious allegations have emerged regarding the Home Guard officer exam. This exam took place over the last six days at the Sundhiya Training Centre in Mehsana. The last day of the exam was Wednesday. There are claims of widespread irregularities related to this examination. No official notice or public order has been issued for the exam. However, opposition Congress has raised concerns that BJP workers or individuals connected to the RSS were allowed to take the exam.

Two months ago, some candidates passed the platoon commander exam despite not meeting the required criteria. These candidates were reportedly allowed to sit for the exam with the help of the district commandant and higher officials. Despite strict rules for Home Guard members, there seem to be no such regulations for these officials.

According to existing rules, there should be a gap of one year after taking any exam. However, some officials have been allowed to take this exam without adhering to this rule. Some of these officials have not been active in the Home Guards for over 15 years. They live 200 km away from their units and have not attended any parades or duty yet were still sent to the exam. This process was reportedly conducted under the supervision of Commandant General Manoj Agrawal.

In Jamnagar, Home Guards are not required to attend daily duties. However, participation in parades and emergency duties is mandatory for all Home Guard members. Additionally, many Home Guards will have important and necessary duties during upcoming board exams. It is also mentioned that funds from the Home Guard welfare fund, which are crucial for the families of Home Guard members, may be deducted from the duties performed in March. All Home Guard members must complete these essential duties. Members who only attend emergency duties must contact their unit officer immediately. Those who do not report for duty may be dismissed from the force, as noted by the district Home Guard commandant.

In Bhuj, the recruitment process for Home Guards is also underway. Today, physical tests began at the police parade ground in Bhuj. Local youths are eager to join the Home Guards, with 230 out of 280 candidates showing up for the physical assessment. The physical tests commenced at 6:30 AM, where candidates’ height and weight were measured, followed by a 1600-meter run. Each candidate must complete the run in under 9 minutes. This entire process is being recorded on video. The recruitment drive is expected to continue for another 3 to 4 days, with the presence of state-level officials from the police and Home Guard units overseeing the arrangements.
