Anand, a city in Gujarat, is witnessing a significant change for its dairy farmers thanks to Amul Dairy. From June 1, 2025, Amul will increase the price of milk by ₹10 per kilogram. This is the first time in its history that Amul has raised milk prices while simultaneously lowering the cost of cattle feed. The price of buffalo milk will now be ₹53.44 per litre, up from ₹52.82, while cow milk will be priced at ₹36.25 per litre, an increase from ₹35.83.
This decision will benefit over 700,000 dairy farmers in Anand, Kheda, and Mahisagar districts. According to Amul’s chairman, Vipulbhai Patel, this increase in milk prices is aimed at providing fair compensation to farmers while also ensuring that they can afford quality feed for their cattle.
In addition to the milk price increase, Amul has also reduced the price of cattle feed bags. A 70 kg bag will now cost ₹35 less, and a 50 kg bag will see a reduction of ₹25. This dual approach of raising milk prices while cutting feed costs is designed to support farmers financially.
Moreover, Amul has already reduced feed prices in April, cutting costs for various types of feed significantly. The move is seen as a strategic plan to ensure that dairy farmers maintain their livelihoods amidst rising costs.
Amul is also investing in solar energy systems for dairy cooperatives. So far, 994 solar systems have been installed, which will help reduce electricity bills for farmers. This initiative represents Amul’s commitment to sustainability and reducing operational costs for its members.
Furthermore, Amul is planning to launch two bio-CNG plants in collaboration with NDDB and Suzuki. These plants will use cow dung and urine to produce biogas, providing farmers with additional income sources through the sale of these materials.
In an exciting development, Amul has secured land in Assam to establish a new dairy plant with an investment of ₹75-100 crores. This marks Amul’s expansion beyond Gujarat, aiming to bring its successful model to new regions.
Amul is also set to launch its milk products in Spain on June 4, 2025, in collaboration with local dairy partners. This move signifies Amul’s growing presence in international markets, following its success in countries like Mauritius, UAE, and the USA.
