Amul Dairy, based in Anand, Gujarat, has announced good news for farmers in the Anand, Kheda, and Mahisagar districts. Starting June 1, 2025, Amul will increase the price of milk by Rs. 10 per kilogram. This is the first time in Amul’s history that milk prices will rise while the cost of animal feed will decrease. The price of buffalo milk will now be Rs. 53.44 per litre, up from Rs. 52.82, and cow milk will be priced at Rs. 36.25 per litre, previously Rs. 35.83.
The chairman of Amul, Vipulbhai Patel, stated that this decision will benefit more than 700,000 dairy farmers connected to Amul in the region. Alongside the milk price increase, Amul has also reduced the price of animal feed by Rs. 25 to Rs. 35 per bag, giving farmers a direct financial advantage. This reduction in feed costs is aimed at supporting dairy farmers’ income.
In addition to these changes, Amul has introduced solar systems in its milk collection centres. So far, 994 solar systems have been installed, and the plan is to have solar energy in all milk centres, which will reduce electricity costs for farmers.
Amul is also planning to start two biogas plants in collaboration with NDDB and Suzuki. These plants will produce biogas using cow dung and urine, which will later be converted into fertiliser. This initiative will provide farmers with a new source of income.
Moreover, Amul is expanding its operations. It has leased land in Assam to set up a new dairy plant with an investment of Rs. 75 to Rs. 100 crores. On June 4, Amul will launch its milk product in Spain in collaboration with local dairy partners. This shows Amul’s growing international presence.
Amul has a significant impact on the dairy industry in India. It has changed the lives of many farmers and has made India the largest milk producer in the world. The Anand model of cooperative dairy farming has inspired similar initiatives across the country and internationally. The success of Amul is attributed to the joint efforts of farmers and cooperative societies, ensuring that the benefits reach the grassroots level.
As Amul continues to innovate and expand, it remains committed to supporting farmers and improving their livelihoods. The recent price adjustments are part of a broader strategy to enhance the dairy sector and ensure sustainability for future generations.
