On World Environment Day, Bhanuben Babariya, the Minister of Women and Child Development in Gujarat, took part in a tree plantation drive at Punita Van in Gandhinagar. This event involved 92 children and their parents from three Aanganwadi centres in Borij. The aim was to encourage environmental conservation and increase the green cover in the state. Babariya stressed the importance of nurturing nature, saying, “Every citizen should take care of the environment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inspired us to adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle through the ‘Mission Life’ initiative.”
The event featured the planting of various trees, including medicinal and traditional species. Babariya highlighted a campaign initiated by the Prime Minister last year, called “Ek Ped Ek Naam” (One Tree, One Name), which encourages citizens to plant a tree in memory of their mothers. This year, the Chief Minister launched a follow-up campaign, “Ek Ped Ek Naam 2.0”, promoting efforts to eliminate plastic and enhance green spaces. Babariya urged everyone, from children to youth, to participate in this initiative.
During the event, a forest officer educated the children about the importance of trees and environmental conservation. Babariya also engaged with the children by playing games and enjoying healthy snacks like banana, mango, and lemon juice. The I.C.D.S. department of Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation and forest officials were also present at the event.
Overall, this tree plantation drive was a significant step towards promoting environmental awareness among the youth in Gujarat. It highlighted the need for community involvement in environmental protection, especially in a time when climate change poses a serious threat to our planet. The event was not only about planting trees but also about instilling a sense of responsibility towards nature in the younger generation. As the drive concluded, the participants were inspired to continue their efforts in protecting the environment and enhancing the green cover in their communities.
