Blood Donation Camp Held in Patan for World Blood Donation Day

On the occasion of World Blood Donation Day, a special blood donation camp was organized in Patan. The Rotary Club of Patan, in collaboration with S.K. Blood Bank and Blood Initiative, led this important event. Many members of the Rotary Club and local citizens participated enthusiastically, donating their blood voluntarily. The organizers reported that a total of 70 bottles of blood were collected during the camp.

The main aim of celebrating World Blood Donation Day is to raise awareness about blood donation and dispel misconceptions surrounding it. Many healthy individuals are often afraid to donate blood, despite the significant need for it. Each year, a lack of blood leads to the loss of many lives. Organizers encouraged donors to view blood donation as a noble act. They urged everyone who is healthy to donate blood every three months. A single blood donation can save the lives of three people. Hence, regular blood donation is essential, and it is a way to participate in this humanitarian effort.

Unfortunately, the S.K. Blood Bank, which has been serving the community since 1986, is currently facing challenges. The blood bank has been a vital service in Patan and surrounding areas, providing blood at affordable rates. However, recent developments have led to its closure due to technical issues and financial difficulties. This has raised concerns for patients who now must rely on private blood banks, which charge significantly higher rates.

The Rotary Club has been operating the S.K. Blood Bank for over three decades. It has been recognized as one of the top government-approved blood banks in Gujarat. However, the recent trend towards privatization in blood services has impacted their operations negatively. In recent years, the bank could only provide a limited number of blood units daily, which has led to financial losses.

As the blood bank shuts down, poor and needy patients will face difficulties in accessing affordable blood. The Rotary Club is planning to restart blood bank services soon, with hopes of overcoming the current challenges. They aim to bring back the much-needed service to the community, ensuring that every individual can access blood when necessary.

The blood donation camp was a reminder of the importance of community support and the role of voluntary donors in saving lives. Every drop of blood counts, and with more awareness and participation, many lives can be saved. The Rotary Club’s efforts are commendable, and they continue to inspire others to join this vital cause.
