Bomb Threat at Gujarat High Court Ahead of Rathyatra

Bomb Threat at Gujarat High Court Ahead of Rathyatra

Just three days before the important Jagannath Rathyatra in Ahmedabad, the Gujarat High Court received a bomb threat via email on June 24. This led to a swift response from the local police and security teams. Upon receiving the threat, the Sola High Court Police and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) quickly arrived at the court. They began a thorough search of the court premises. The court complex was cordoned off, and multiple police teams were deployed to ensure safety. Fortunately, no suspicious objects were found during the search. Investigations are ongoing to trace the origin of the email and identify the sender.

Earlier the same day, a bomb threat email was also sent to the Gujarat Refinery English Medium School in Karadiya village, Vadodara. The principal of the school reported that the email claimed a bomb had been planted in the school. Following the threat, all students were safely evacuated. Bomb and dog squads conducted a detailed inspection of the school, ensuring it was safe.

In another incident, Navrachana Higher Secondary School in Vadodara’s Sama area received a similar threat. This marked the second bomb threat to the school this year. The first incident occurred in January. In response to the latest threat, Sama police and the bomb squad promptly arrived to check the premises thoroughly.

Authorities are now investigating whether these threats are connected. They are working hard to track down the culprits behind these disturbing hoax emails. The recent bomb threats have raised concerns about safety in public spaces, especially as the Rathyatra approaches.

The Gujarat High Court threat was taken very seriously. The email, sent from an address identified as [email protected], claimed that three RDX-based improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were planted inside the court complex. It also warned that a VIP would be targeted. The email alleged that similar explosives were placed in courts across the state.

After receiving the threat, security protocols were activated immediately. Despite the serious nature of the threat, the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court chose not to evacuate the premises. This decision was different from a previous incident on June 9 when a similar threat led to a temporary evacuation.

The timing of this email has raised suspicions. Authorities believe it might be linked to Rene Josilda, who was arrested just a day earlier in Chennai by Ahmedabad’s Cyber Crime Branch. Josilda is alleged to have sent threatening emails to various institutions across 11 states, including Gujarat. While there is no official confirmation yet, authorities suspect a possible connection between these incidents.

The recent threats are not isolated cases. The Gujarat High Court had received a similar bomb threat on June 9. Although nothing was found during that incident, it prompted a comprehensive investigation. Today’s threat, occurring just two weeks later, suggests a worrying pattern aimed at disrupting public institutions and spreading fear among the public.

Although no actual explosives have been found in any of the recent incidents, authorities are considering the possibility of coordinated cyber-terrorism or copycat attempts. These threats exploit recent panic and waste valuable time for the security forces.

As investigations continue, the community is left on edge. Parents and students are anxious about safety in schools and public places. The police are urging people to remain calm and report any suspicious activity. They stress that while threats can cause panic, they take every threat seriously and will act swiftly to ensure public safety. The Gujarat High Court and local schools are now under heightened security as authorities work to address these threats and protect the community.
