Building Collapse in Surat: Two Women Rescued

In Surat, a two-storey building has collapsed in the Golwad area, causing panic among residents. This incident took place in the Kot region of the city. Fire services were quick to respond and rescued four individuals, including two women. The collapse injured one person, 40-year-old Wasim Abdul Razaq Sheikh, who was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The building had been in a dilapidated condition for several years. The Central Zone of the municipal corporation had issued three notices to the building owner, urging them to take action. However, no steps were taken to repair or evacuate the building.

The incident occurred on a narrow street known as Panchbheet in Golwad. Many residents were inside the building when it collapsed, putting their lives at risk. As news of the collapse spread, a crowd gathered at the scene, showing concern for those trapped.

The fire department arrived promptly and worked to rescue those trapped under the debris. They managed to save Wasim, who had sustained injuries to his leg, and two women, Chetanaben Ajitkumar Zaveri and Chandraben Vasantlal Zaveri, who were inside the building at the time. They were able to escape and were unharmed. Sadly, a motorcycle parked nearby was severely damaged in the collapse.

The municipal corporation’s Central Zone team also arrived at the site to clear the rubble. They began the process of removing the debris to ensure the safety of the area. This incident has sparked discussions in the city about the dangers posed by dilapidated buildings. Many people are living in such structures, risking their lives every day.

This is not the first such incident in Surat. Recently, a slab from a building at Mission Hospital also collapsed, highlighting the urgent need for action regarding unsafe buildings. Residents are now calling for more inspections and stricter regulations to ensure their safety. The local authorities must take immediate steps to prevent further tragedies like this one.

As the situation unfolds, it is crucial for the municipal corporation to address the issue of hazardous buildings promptly. The safety of residents in Surat must be a priority to avoid any more accidents in the future.
