The Election Commission of India has announced by-elections for two important assembly seats in Gujarat. These are the Kadi Assembly seat in Mehsana district and the Visavadar Assembly seat in Junagadh district. The by-elections were called due to the passing of Kadi MLA Karsanbhai Solanki and the resignation of Visavadar MLA Bhupendrabhai Bhayani.
The announcement came on May 25, 2025. The election notification will be published on May 26, 2025. Voting will take place on June 19, 2025, and the results will be declared on June 23, 2025.
In Gujarat, the Election Commission has also announced by-elections for one seat each in Kerala, Punjab, and West Bengal, along with these two constituencies in Gujarat. For both Kadi and Visavadar, candidates can file their nomination papers starting from May 26, 2025, until June 2, 2025, excluding public holidays.
The model code of conduct will come into effect from May 25, 2025, for the by-elections in Kadi and Visavadar. This ensures that all political parties follow fair practices during the election period.
According to the latest voter list published on May 5, 2025, there are a total of 289,856 registered voters in the Kadi constituency. This includes 149,760 men, 140,092 women, and 4 third-gender voters. In Visavadar, there are 261,092 registered voters, with 135,609 men, 125,479 women, and 4 third-gender voters.
These by-elections are crucial as they will fill the vacant seats in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly.
