In Banaskantha, a special event aimed to empower teenage girls took place recently. The initiative was designed to provide career guidance to girls from 20 Anganwadi centres across 10 villages. A total of 73 girls participated in this programme, which was organised under the leadership of the district collector, Mihir Patel, and ICDS district programme officer, Ushaben Gajjar.
The event was held at the Lakshmichand Zaveri ITI, located in the Madana Gadh Seja area of Palanpur. The girls were given an opportunity to learn about various trades available at the ITI, thanks to the guidance from instructors and the principal. During their visit, the girls received information about further education options available after completing their schooling. This included opportunities provided by NIOS and BAOU for students who have finished classes 5, 8, 10, and 12.
The programme emphasised the importance of education and self-reliance for the participants. The ICDS programme officer informed the girls about the various services offered by ICDS and the Purna scheme. These services aim to help dropout girls resume their studies and encourage them to enter ITIs, ultimately guiding them to become self-sufficient.
An inspiring talk was also delivered to highlight the significance of becoming self-reliant. As a result of this programme, 10 girls were able to secure admission to the ITI, marking a vital step towards their futures. The event was attended by CDPO Bhavanaben, district Purna consultant Arunaben, and several Anganwadi workers, all of whom played a crucial role in supporting the initiative.
The initiative is part of a broader effort by the government to enhance educational opportunities for young girls in rural areas. It aims to not only provide career guidance but also to instil confidence and motivation among participants. The organisers hope that such opportunities will empower these girls to pursue their dreams and contribute positively to their communities.
