Celebrating Global Bee Day: AMA Launches Live Beehive in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad recently celebrated Global Bee Day on May 20th with a special event at the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA). This event featured the launch of a live beehive, a key initiative under the ‘Project Adopt a Queen’ (PAKQ) collaboration. The aim of this initiative is to promote biodiversity and sustainability in agriculture.

The AMA, dedicated to addressing climate change challenges, has taken a significant step by establishing itself as Ahmedabad’s first pollinator-friendly institution. Dr. Savan Godiyawala, president of AMA, spoke on the importance of beekeeping and the role bees play in our ecosystem. He mentioned the project is part of the mission of the Nirubhai Desai – AMA Center for Climate Management, along with PAKQ, which focuses on agricultural improvement and making clean food accessible for all.

Bees are vital for pollination, which is essential for the growth of many plants. This initiative not only supports the local ecosystem but also aims to educate the community about the importance of bees. The live beehive will serve as a demonstration site for students and local farmers, promoting practices that are beneficial to both the environment and agriculture.

Mr. Meet Joshi, a bees conservationist and researcher, highlighted the significance of bee conservation in shaping India’s ecological future. He pointed out that through technology and community action, they can help protect the bee population, which is currently facing threats from climate change and habitat loss.

The collaboration between AMA and PAKQ is set to continue for three years, focusing on promoting biodiversity and sustainability through community engagement. This initiative is seen as a vital step in the ongoing efforts to combat ecological challenges in India.

The event was attended by various stakeholders, including students, local farmers, and media representatives. It aimed to raise awareness about the critical role bees play in our environment and to encourage more sustainable agricultural practices.

In conclusion, the launch of the live beehive at AMA is a significant step towards promoting biodiversity and sustainability in Ahmedabad. It reflects a growing recognition of the need to protect our ecosystems and the vital species that inhabit them. The initiative not only supports local agriculture but also serves as an educational platform to inspire future generations to care for our environment.
