Ahmedabad, June 27, 2025: The 25th MSME Day has been celebrated by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) in Ahmedabad. This event highlighted the resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of India’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). These enterprises are crucial for grassroots development and national progress. To mark the occasion, EDII hosted an event called ‘MSME Talk’ at its campus.
The highlight of the day was a speech by Shri R.D. Barhat, Joint Commissioner of Industries from the Government of Gujarat. He spoke on the theme: ‘Treading a Sustainable Growth Path for MSMEs Amidst Changing Business Dynamics.’ Dr. Sunil Shukla, the Director General of EDII, was also present.
In his address, Mr. Barhat emphasized the important role of MSMEs in India’s economy. He pointed out that sustainable growth is essential in today’s digital world, where uncertainties and environmental issues are growing. He stated, “Sustainable growth for MSMEs must be inclusive, responsible, and innovation-driven.” He added that it is vital for MSMEs to pursue economic development while maintaining environmental and social standards.
Over the past year, EDII has conducted more than 2,200 training programs across India, reaching over 100,000 entrepreneurs. These programs are supported by the Ministry of MSME, focusing on current and potential entrepreneurs. Through innovation-led programs, MSME promoters received training in fields like Business Analytics, Robotics, Agro-Processing, and the Government e-Marketplace (GeM).
On this MSME Day, EDII also launched a capacity-building program for women-led enterprises in Maharashtra. This program is part of the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) initiative, which is supported by the Maharashtra Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Limited (MSSIDC).
EDII has been collaborating closely with states like Maharashtra and Goa to support Udyam-registered MSMEs and Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The training modules cover crucial areas such as GeM, Intellectual Property Rights, financial management, and operations, helping entrepreneurs grow sustainably.
Dr. Sunil Shukla, Director General of EDII, stated, “MSMEs are not just economic units; they represent innovation, resilience, and self-reliance for millions across India. Our focus is on strengthening this vital backbone by equipping entrepreneurs with the right skills, tools, and mindset for sustainable growth.”
EDII’s contributions to infrastructure development are significant. Acting as a Project Management Consultant under the SIDBI Cluster Development Fund, the Institute has supported SIDBI in evaluating infrastructure projects worth ₹10,000 crore across 21 states over the last three years. This project has contributed to strengthening the MSME ecosystem and creating large-scale jobs.
The Institute is also implementing the MSE-CDP scheme to establish Common Facility Centres (CFCs) in key industry clusters throughout Gujarat, enhancing its grassroots impact. With its reach across India, EDII is committed to advancing the entrepreneurial journey, promoting self-reliant and developed India through capacity-building and inclusive development.
In conclusion, MSME Day 2025 serves as an important reminder of the contributions of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises to the economy. Celebrations like these not only honour the spirit of entrepreneurship but also highlight the need for continued support and innovation in this vital sector. As we look towards the future, the role of MSMEs will be crucial in shaping a resilient and inclusive economy in India.
