Clean Sabarmati Mission Launched in Ahmedabad

On May 15, 2025, a significant initiative called the ‘Clean Sabarmati Mission’ was launched in Ahmedabad. The mission aims to clean the Sabarmati River, which has been facing pollution issues. The Governor of Gujarat, Acharya Devvrat, participated in the mission alongside students and teachers from Gujarat Vidyapith. They gathered at the banks of the Sabarmati River near Vallabh Sadan to contribute their efforts towards cleanliness.

Governor Devvrat addressed the citizens of Ahmedabad, urging everyone who enjoys the beauty of the Sabarmati Riverfront to take part in maintaining its cleanliness. He stressed that it is the collective responsibility of the community to keep the river clean and pure for future generations.

So far, the joint efforts of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation have led to the removal of 408 metric tonnes of waste from the river. This includes over 33 metric tonnes of cloth, more than 70 metric tonnes of plastic, and 41 metric tonnes of wood. Devvrat highlighted the negative impact of religious items and plastic waste on the river’s cleanliness.

The Governor noted that the project was inspired by the vision of former Chief Minister of Gujarat and current Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who aimed to transform the polluted and foul-smelling Sabarmati River into a blessing for the people of Ahmedabad. The Sabarmati Riverfront has now become a source of inspiration for the country and the world, providing peace and joy to the city.

The ‘Clean Sabarmati Mission’ has seen significant participation, with over 40,435 volunteers contributing their time and effort. These volunteers come from various backgrounds, including religious, social, industrial, educational institutions, and NGOs. Mechanical support, including JCBs, trucks, and tractors, has been provided daily to assist in the cleanup efforts.

Governor Devvrat regularly participates in cleanliness campaigns and encourages the public to join him in these initiatives. He appealed to the citizens to take some time out to participate in the ‘Clean Sabarmati Mission’ until June 5. His call to action aims to raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness and environmental protection in their community.

The mission’s launch was celebrated with the presence of several dignitaries, including the Mayor of Ahmedabad, Pratibha Jain, and local MPs and officials. The initiative reflects a growing awareness of environmental issues and the need for community involvement to tackle pollution effectively.

As the mission progresses, it is expected to foster a spirit of cooperation and commitment among the people of Ahmedabad towards a cleaner and healthier environment. With continuous efforts and public participation, the vision of a clean Sabarmati can become a reality.
