In the small village of Bahadarpur, located in the Sankheda taluka of Gujarat, a terrifying incident occurred when a highly venomous cobra was spotted climbing an electricity pole. This unusual sight caused panic among the local residents who gathered around to see the snake. The cobra was trying to reach a nest of eggs, known as khiskoli, situated on the pole. As it climbed, it got stuck between the wires of the pole, making the situation even more alarming.
Upon hearing about the snake’s predicament, a local resident named Kiritbhai Patel quickly alerted the animal rescue team. The team rushed to the scene, aware of the dangers posed by the electricity and the snake. Despite the risks, members of the rescue team, Sachinbhai and Lalabhai, bravely climbed the pole to save the cobra.
The rescue operation was challenging. The team had to be careful not to touch the live wires while also ensuring the safety of the cobra. After a tense few moments, the rescuers successfully captured the snake and moved it to a secure location in the nearby forest. The cobra was released unharmed, and the team received praise for their bravery and quick thinking.
Cobras are known for their striking appearance and deadly venom. They typically lay between eight to forty eggs, with the incubation period lasting around seventy days. The cobra’s length can range from eight to twelve inches, making it one of the most feared snakes in India.
This incident highlights the importance of animal rescue efforts, especially as the monsoon season approaches. During this time, snakes often emerge from their hiding places in search of food and shelter, leading to more encounters with humans. Just three days before the cobra incident, a rare sighting of a pair of cat snakes had also been reported in the same region, indicating an increase in wildlife activity as the weather changes.
Local wildlife experts remind residents to stay vigilant and avoid approaching snakes. If a snake is spotted, it is best to contact trained professionals who can safely handle the situation. The cobra’s rescue serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between human habitats and wildlife, and the need for coexistence and respect for nature.
