Concern Grows Over Potholes on Gatheshwar Highway

In Gatheshwar, Gujarat, the condition of the highway from Kathlal to Godhra is causing serious problems for drivers. Large potholes have appeared on the road, leading to damage to vehicles. This highway, which spans 85 kilometres, charges a toll of 240 rupees for passage. Many drivers expect a well-maintained road in return for this toll. Reports also indicate that the road near Menanpura, on the Balasinor route, is in such poor condition that it is barely recognisable. Drivers are calling for urgent repairs on the highway. They argue that until the road is fixed, the toll should not be collected.

Gatheshwar is located in the Kheda district of Gujarat. It is both a significant religious site and a tourist destination, situated around 16 kilometres from Dakor. The Gatheshwar Mahadev Temple, dating back to the 12th century, is an important landmark in the area.

In September 2013, Gatheshwar was established as a separate taluka, including 34 villages from the former Thasra taluka. This new administrative structure aims to enhance local governance and development. However, the current state of the highway raises questions about the effectiveness of local administration in addressing community needs.

Residents and drivers are urging government officials to prioritise the repair of this vital route. They believe that a well-maintained highway is essential not only for daily commuters but also for tourism in the region. The appeals for repair work continue, as the community remains hopeful for improvements in the near future.
