Palanpur recently held a significant event to mark Constitution Assassination Day 2025. The celebration took place at the Municipal Town Hall, chaired by Balvantsinh Rajput, the Minister of Banaskantha. This event highlighted the 50th anniversary of the Emergency imposed in India in 1975. The Emergency is remembered as a dark chapter in India’s democratic history.
Balvantsinh Rajput emphasized the importance of strengthening democratic values. He stated that the day serves as a reminder of the severe attack on democracy, freedom, and fundamental rights during the Emergency. He referred to this day as ‘Constitution Assassination Day’.
Fifty years ago, the then government declared a state of Emergency across the country. This was not just a political move but a significant blow to the rights guaranteed by the Constitution. Rajput urged everyone to remember the sacrifices made by those who fought for democracy.
During the Emergency, press freedom was severely restricted. The government controlled what could be printed in newspapers. Opposition leaders were imprisoned without reason, and citizens’ basic rights were suspended.
Rajput called on citizens to work together in strengthening democracy. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he believes it is everyone’s responsibility to uphold democratic values. He stressed the need for dialogue and consensus among all citizens.
The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of protecting democratic values and the Constitution. It served as a reminder of the need for vigilance in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of individuals in India.
