In Limkheda, a 65-year-old bridge over the Hadf River is facing serious issues due to poor repairs that have sparked outrage among local residents. The repairs, which cost ₹60 lakh, have been deemed inadequate and substandard. Locals allege that the contractor used low-quality materials, raising fears that the bridge might collapse like another nearby bridge recently did.
Pankaj Katara, a tribal leader, expressed concerns about the repairs, stating that only concrete was added around the old pillars, with no proper work done beneath. This has left exposed iron rods visible in several places. As vehicles pass over the bridge, it shakes, posing a risk to safety. Residents believe that instead of repairing such an old structure, it would be wiser to construct a new bridge.
Hundreds of vehicles use this bridge daily, and there are calls for a laboratory test of the materials used in the repairs to ensure safety. If no proper investigation takes place, locals have threatened to approach the district collector for action.
The narrowness of the bridge further complicates matters, as vehicles cannot pass side by side, causing traffic jams and difficulties for drivers. There is a growing demand for a swift investigation and action from the government regarding the allegations made by residents. Attempts were made to contact officials from the Limkheda Roads and Buildings Department for comments, but they were unavailable for response.
This situation highlights the ongoing issues of corruption and negligence in public works, raising questions about the accountability of contractors and government officials. The safety of the bridge and the lives of those who use it depend on immediate action and thorough investigations into the quality of work done. Residents are left feeling frustrated and anxious about their safety while crossing the bridge, and they continue to voice their demands for change. The local community is united in their call for justice and the necessary repairs to ensure that the bridge is safe for everyone.
