COVID-19 is making a return in Gujarat, particularly in Ahmedabad. Recently, a newborn baby tested positive for the virus shortly after birth. The baby was born to a mother who was COVID-19 positive at the time of delivery. Currently, the baby is being treated in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Sola Civil Hospital. The mother has since tested negative for the virus, while another 23-year-old woman at the hospital is still positive and under observation.
The baby is only two days old and has been placed in the NICU due to low birth weight. Medical professionals are monitoring the baby’s health closely. Additionally, at Asarwa Civil Hospital, an eight-month-old baby has also tested positive and is receiving oxygen support due to various complications.
Health Minister Rishikesh Patel spoke about the rising COVID-19 cases in the state. He reassured the public that there is no need to panic but urged everyone to remain cautious. The Health Department is in constant contact with the central government but has not yet issued any new standard operating procedures (SOPs). Patel advised families to isolate themselves if they show symptoms to prevent spreading the virus.
He confirmed that the current variant of concern is Omicron. It is known that there are variants like LF.7 and NB.1.8.1 circulating in Gujarat, which have similar symptoms to those seen in other parts of the country. In Rajkot, the situation is also concerning, with eight new cases reported recently. This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state to 190, with Ahmedabad accounting for 131 of these cases.
Over the past week, 183 new cases have been confirmed across various districts. Cities like Jamnagar, Mehsana, Gandhinagar, and Bhavnagar have reported new infections, highlighting how widespread the virus remains. The health authorities are ramping up testing and contact tracing efforts to control the situation.
The community is being urged to follow COVID-19 guidelines, including wearing masks and avoiding crowded places. Health officials are taking all necessary precautions to keep the virus from spreading further. Despite the increase in cases, most patients are currently being treated at home, which offers some reassurance.
In Surat, the situation is also evolving. Four more COVID-19 cases were reported in a single day, leading to a total of nine cases in the week. The new cases were identified in areas like Sagramapura and Godadara. The local government is advising residents to practice caution and follow health guidelines strictly.
In summary, while the rise in COVID-19 cases is alarming, health officials are working hard to manage the situation. The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols to protect themselves and others from the virus. With the ongoing monitoring and treatment efforts, the hope is to contain the virus and prevent a larger outbreak in Gujarat.
