COVID-19 Cases Rise in Ahmedabad and Rajkot

In the past 24 hours, Ahmedabad has reported five new cases of COVID-19. Among these patients, an 84-year-old man is currently hospitalized, while a 20-year-old woman has been admitted to Sola Civil Hospital due to breathing difficulties. She is now on oxygen support. The remaining patients are in home isolation. In Rajkot, after a long time, a positive case has been identified. A 43-year-old man tested positive and is also in home isolation.

May has seen a rise in COVID-19 cases, with a total of 40 cases reported this month. Out of these, 33 cases are currently active. To address this situation, isolation wards have been set up at AMC-run hospitals, including SVP, Shardaben, and LG Hospital.

Additionally, a second COVID-19 case has been reported in the Kadi taluka of Mehsana district. A young man, who works in animal husbandry and lives near Dadi Circle on Kalyanpura Road, was admitted to a private hospital due to fever and cold symptoms. His test result came back positive. The local health department has been informed, and health teams have visited the patient and his family. Fortunately, their health is stable.

Earlier, on Wednesday, another case was reported in the rural area of Kadi taluka. The health department is taking proactive measures due to the rising COVID-19 cases in Gujarat. Hospitals across the state are preparing isolation wards and ensuring supplies like oxygen tanks, PPE kits, ventilators, and medications are available. In Ahmedabad, a 1200-bed facility is ready, and 20 oxygen tanks are on standby. Rajkot Civil Hospital has also established a special 20-bed ward for COVID-19 patients. In Vadodara, a 22-bed isolation ward is prepared at Sayaji Hospital, while Surat Civil Hospital is ready to set up emergency wards if required.

On May 20, Ahmedabad recorded a total of seven positive cases, which included a two-year-old girl and a 72-year-old man. All patients are currently under home isolation. The affected areas include Vatva, Dani Limda, Baherampura, Gota, Narol, Navrangpura, and Maninagar. Four patients tested positive at a government lab, while three were tested at private labs. No new variants have been detected among these cases.

In response to the situation, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the state health department have strengthened their monitoring efforts. They have begun contact tracing and testing of individuals who may have been in touch with positive cases.

With rising cases in countries like Singapore and Hong Kong, health authorities in India are urging the public to stay vigilant. Mumbai has also reported over 50 cases in recent days, raising concerns that COVID-19 cases may surge again in India. The health department has appealed to all citizens to remain cautious.

As of now, Gujarat has a total of 16 active COVID-19 cases, with 14 in Ahmedabad, one in Ahmedabad rural, and one in Rajkot. Authorities claim there is no cause for alarm, as the Omicron variant observed is not considered dangerous. Most patients are being treated at home. Still, isolation wards are being prepared at Ahmedabad and Rajkot civil hospitals.

The COVID-19 pandemic first emerged in March 2020 in Gujarat, with the first two cases reported in Surat and Rajkot. Since then, the state has seen various waves of the virus, and the health department continues to take preventive measures to ensure public health and safety. It is essential for residents to remain alert, practice safety protocols, and follow guidelines issued by health officials.
