In a recent incident, the Dariyapur police in Ahmedabad have arrested a man for committing fraud using fake payment screenshots. The accused, Surdashan Yuvraj Reddy, was caught after he tricked local traders into believing he had made payments for expensive items.
Surdashan, originally from Bangalore, had a passion for luxury goods. However, lacking the funds to buy them, he devised a clever plan to satisfy his desires. He would approach traders online, insisting on making payments through bank transfers. When he lacked actual money in his account, he would edit screenshots of cancelled transactions to convince traders that payments had been made.
The fraud came to light when Surdashan attempted to buy a gold chain from a jeweller in Dariyapur. He told the jeweller that the payment had been transferred to their account. However, when the jeweller did not see the funds arrive, he became suspicious and filed a complaint with the police.
Dariyapur police launched an investigation into the matter. They discovered that Surdashan had been using this method at various places, including a five-star hotel where he stayed. He had managed to deceive the hotel manager with the same trick.
Fraud cases like this are becoming more common in Gujarat. Just recently, a woman in Surat reported a similar incident where she was cheated out of a large sum of money via a Telegram scam that promised commission for completing hotel review tasks.
The police are urging people to be cautious and verify transactions before completing any purchases. The arrest of Surdashan serves as a reminder to traders and consumers alike to be vigilant against such fraudulent activities. It is essential to ensure that payments are confirmed before handing over goods, especially in online transactions.
The police hope that their swift action in this case will deter others from attempting similar scams. They are continuing to investigate Surdashan’s activities to see if he is linked to other fraud cases in the area.
