Residents of Badapura in Ward No. 9 of Deesa are facing a serious health risk due to poor sanitation. For over a month, the local municipality has failed to clean the area. The streets are flooded with dirty water, making it difficult for people to walk. Children heading to school often slip and injure themselves. Local resident Saddam Sheikh expressed his frustration, stating, “We have informed the municipality many times. The stench is unbearable, and we cannot sleep at night.” Another resident, Majbin Sheikh, added that the gutters have been overflowing for a month, leading to illnesses among their children.
Mumtaz Solanki, a concerned local, mentioned that despite numerous complaints to the local corporator and municipality, nothing has changed. It seems the municipality is waiting for a severe disease outbreak to take action. The community is calling for immediate intervention from the municipality chief, Nita Thakkar, to visit the area, clean the streets, and ensure proper drainage is implemented.
Local anger is growing as the situation worsens. The lack of cleanliness has raised concerns about the spread of diseases in the community. Residents are frustrated that while the municipality collects fees for sanitation services, they do not provide adequate services in return. This has led to protests against the local administration.
Badapura is located in the Anand district of Gujarat, a state in western India. The main occupations of its residents include agriculture, farm labour, and animal husbandry. They primarily grow wheat, millet, tobacco, potatoes, sugarcane, bananas, and various vegetables. The village has essential facilities like primary schools and a dairy cooperative, but these are overshadowed by the sanitation crisis.
The flooding in Badapura affects daily life and raises safety concerns. Parents are worried about their children’s health, especially with the ongoing risk of waterborne diseases. The community is urging the municipality to act swiftly to clean the area and prevent further health hazards.
Local leaders are being called upon to take responsibility. The people of Badapura deserve a clean and safe environment. It is crucial for health and well-being, especially for children who are often the most affected by such conditions. The municipality must listen to the voices of its citizens and take immediate action to restore cleanliness in Badapura. Only then can the community feel safe and healthy once more.
