Dialysis Unit Faces Challenges at Santrampur State Hospital

Santrampur, a town in Gujarat, is facing serious issues with its dialysis unit at the State Hospital. This facility was established to help patients suffering from kidney problems. On average, between 17 to 18 patients rely on this unit every day for their treatment. Currently, there are ten dialysis machines available, but only three are operational due to faults caused by recent weather events.

Recently, a cyclone and unexpected rainfall caused fluctuations in the electricity supply. This led to failures in many machines, leaving only three operational through a generator. Patients are now forced to travel to the CHC (Community Health Centre) in Kadana for their dialysis sessions, which is not only inconvenient but also time-consuming.

Previously, around 18 patients were able to receive treatment at the Santrampur unit daily. However, due to the current situation, many are experiencing significant hardships. They face delays and additional stress from having to travel to Kadana, which is not ideal for patients who require regular dialysis.

The community has raised concerns about the urgent need for repairs to the faulty machines. Local officials and the health department are being urged to take immediate action to restore the full functionality of the dialysis unit. Patients and their families are anxious for a swift resolution to ensure that their health needs are met without further complications.

The Santrampur State Hospital plays a vital role in providing healthcare to the local population. The dialysis unit is crucial for many residents who depend on regular treatments. As the demand for such medical services increases, it is essential for the state to ensure that the necessary infrastructure is maintained and upgraded as needed.

The Santrampur area has a rich history and serves as an administrative centre in the Mahisagar District. With a population of nearly 19,000, the town is known for its historical significance and as a trading hub for nearby rural areas. The residents are hopeful that the government will take the necessary steps to improve healthcare services, particularly in urgent situations like this.

In conclusion, the current state of the dialysis unit in Santrampur highlights the broader issues in healthcare delivery in rural areas. Ensuring that medical facilities are well-equipped and functional is crucial for the health and well-being of the community. Local authorities must prioritise these repairs to avoid putting patients’ lives at risk. The call for immediate action is loud and clear, and it is time for the relevant departments to respond effectively.
