In a tragic incident, a plane crash in Ahmedabad claimed the lives of 135 people. As of now, DNA samples of 135 deceased individuals have matched. Civil Hospital Superintendent Dr. Rakesh Joshi announced that 101 bodies have been handed over to their families. The matching process is ongoing, and many families are waiting to receive their loved ones’ remains.
Dr. Joshi mentioned that 12 families are expected to accept the bodies of their relatives soon. The hospital is in contact with five more families, while 17 families are still waiting for DNA matches. The matching process is sensitive and must be handled carefully due to legal implications. The hospital and various agencies, including forensic science experts, are working diligently to expedite the process.
Victims’ bodies have been identified from various districts, including 13 from Vadodara, 30 from Ahmedabad, and others from Anand, Bharuch, Gandhinagar, and more. The swift identification and return of bodies are a priority for the authorities. The identification process is being conducted under strict protocols to ensure accuracy and sensitivity.
Dr. Joshi assured that as more results come in, the matching rate will increase, and the process will become quicker. He also explained the procedures families will go through when accepting the bodies. The tragic event has left many families in grief, and support teams are in place to assist them. Each family receives dedicated support, including a senior officer and a professional counsellor to help them navigate this difficult time.
