In Banaskantha district, Gujarat, a significant milestone has been achieved in the e-KYC process for ration card beneficiaries. Out of a total of 22.99 lakh beneficiaries, 20.17 lakh have completed their e-KYC successfully. This marks an impressive 87.73% completion rate, placing Banaskantha among the top districts in the state for this initiative.
The e-KYC process is crucial for ensuring that beneficiaries receive their entitled food grains from the government. Recently, reports suggested that 28.21 lakh poor individuals would be deprived of their grain allocations due to incomplete e-KYC. However, officials have clarified that these reports are misleading.
K.K. Chaudhary, the District Supply Officer, confirmed that 4,58,588 ration cards have completed the e-KYC process out of a total of 4,46,385 NFSA ration cards. This means that only 5,797 ration card holders have pending e-KYC processes, which is commendable considering the large number of beneficiaries involved.
To facilitate those who have not yet completed their e-KYC, the government has made arrangements for spot e-KYC at fair price shops. This initiative aims to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries can access their food grain allocations without delay. The government has decided to distribute the grain for both May and June 2025 in one go, allowing beneficiaries to claim their entitlements after completing the e-KYC at the shops.
The e-KYC process can also be completed through various channels. Beneficiaries can visit their local gram panchayat, the local post office, or the office of the Mamlatdar. Additionally, they can use the My Ration App for self-service e-KYC. This flexibility is designed to make the process as convenient as possible for all beneficiaries.
Officials have reiterated that the earlier claims about millions being deprived of food supplies due to incomplete e-KYC are unfounded. They highlighted that the completion of e-KYC is essential to ensure that beneficiaries receive the correct amount of food grains according to the number of members registered on their ration card.
