Elections Scheduled for 614 Gram Panchayat and 405 Sarpanch Seats in Banaskantha

In Banaskantha district, elections will take place for 614 Gram Panchayat seats and 405 Sarpanch positions. The State Election Commission announced these elections, which are set for June 22, 2025. Voting will occur from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Out of the 614 Gram Panchayats, 385 will hold general elections, while 229 will have by-elections.

Currently, there are 405 Sarpanch positions available. Among these, 90 Sarpanchs have been declared unopposed, alongside 2,478 members of the ward councils. A total of 1,927 nomination forms were submitted for the 405 Sarpanch positions, while 5,005 forms were submitted for the 3,570 ward member seats.

During the verification process of the nomination papers, 44 Sarpanch forms and 198 ward member forms were rejected. Additionally, 834 Sarpanch nominations and 737 ward member nominations were withdrawn. This means elections will be held among 933 Sarpanch candidates and 1,611 ward member candidates.

The elections will be held in various talukas, with significant competition in Palanpur, where 31 Sarpanch and 55 ward member seats are contested. Other talukas include Vadgam, which has 36 Sarpanch candidates and 74 ward members, and Danta with 29 Sarpanch candidates and 135 ward members.

The official notification for the elections was issued on May 28, 2025, and the last date for filing nomination papers is June 9, 2025. The verification of nomination papers will take place on June 10, and candidates can withdraw their nominations until June 11.

Voting will take place on June 22, 2025, and the counting of the votes will be conducted on June 25, with the complete election process expected to conclude by June 27, 2025.

This election cycle is crucial for local governance in Banaskantha, as it will determine the leadership in many villages and local councils.
