Escape Artist: Liquor Smuggler Evades Police in Deesa

In a recent incident in Deesa, Gujarat, a man involved in liquor smuggling managed to escape from the police. The event took place in the village of Juna Deesa, where local authorities were on patrol. They received a tip-off about a person named Ajay Keshaji Thakor, who was reportedly selling liquor from his Activa scooter.

Acting on the information, the Deesa rural police set up a watch. When they spotted Thakor’s Activa, they attempted to stop him. However, he abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene. Despite the police chasing him, he managed to escape into the narrow lanes of the village.

Upon inspecting the abandoned Activa, police discovered foreign liquor worth ₹2,889. In total, the police seized ₹52,889 worth of items, including the scooter valued at ₹50,000. Authorities have initiated legal action against the fugitive Thakor.

This incident highlights ongoing issues with liquor smuggling in Gujarat, despite the state’s prohibition laws. Many vehicles loaded with illegal liquor are intercepted daily. In a separate operation, the CID Crime team uncovered a larger smuggling network transporting vast quantities of liquor from Rajasthan to various parts of Gujarat.

The CID team, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a container disguised with gypsum powder, which was ferrying liquor worth ₹27 lakhs. In total, they seized goods amounting to ₹47 lakhs, including the container itself. The driver, Malaram Sonaram Jat, was arrested, and further investigations are underway to trace the origins and destination of the contraband.

The state has been facing challenges with liquor smuggling, especially along the border with Rajasthan. As Gujarat celebrates its 77th Independence Day, the crackdown on illegal liquor trade continues to be a pressing concern. Local authorities are working hard to combat this issue, but the smuggling networks appear to be resilient and resourceful.

In another incident in Deesa, a local government officer, B.D. Solanki, was accused of drinking alcohol in his office. This incident caused a stir as he allegedly verbally abused students who came to collect their documents. The police intervened and took him to the local station. The incident has raised questions about the integrity of public officials in the state.

As the situation develops, local communities and authorities are urged to remain vigilant against such illegal activities. The fight against liquor smuggling is ongoing, and police efforts are crucial to maintaining law and order in the region. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to help combat the issue effectively.
