In a shocking incident in Viramgam, Gujarat, a woman posing as a tantrik has been arrested for cheating a local businessman out of ₹67 lakhs. The accused, identified as Komal Rathod, promised to solve various problems for the businessman, Dineshbhai Seth, who runs a snack shop.
Dineshbhai was in distress as he faced a threat of his shop being taken over. He contacted Komal, who claimed to have the power to protect him through rituals. She convinced him that there was hidden wealth beneath his new shop. To gain Dineshbhai’s trust, Komal provided a list of gold jewellery needed for the rituals.
Using this list, she tricked him into giving her large amounts of cash and gold jewellery. The total amount embezzled included ₹67 lakhs worth of jewellery and cash. Komal promised that if he performed a ritual, he would find hidden treasures in the new shop.
She told Dineshbhai that breaking open the flooring of the new shop would reveal the riches. During the ritual, Komal instilled fear in Dineshbhai, warning him that if he opened the door too soon, he would face grave consequences from the goddess she claimed to serve.
After several days of deception, Dineshbhai grew suspicious and decided to investigate. When he opened the door, he found only a piece of cloth instead of the promised gold. Realising he had been scammed, he reported the incident to the police.
The Viramgam police have registered a case and have arrested Komal Rathod. They suspect there may be more victims of her fraudulent activities. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover the full extent of her deceit.
This incident raises concerns about the rise of such fraudulent practices in the region, where con artists exploit people’s beliefs and fears. Authorities urge the public to remain cautious and to verify the credentials of individuals claiming to have supernatural abilities.
