Father Sentenced to Life for Rape of His Minor Daughter in Mehsana

In a shocking case from Mehsana, a father has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his 17-year-old daughter. The incident came to light when the girl experienced severe stomach pain and was taken to a government hospital. Medical tests revealed that she was pregnant. The father, identified as Bhavaniprasad Rajaram, worked at an Ayurvedic college and lived with his family in a dormitory provided by the college. He had been threatening his daughter not to tell anyone about the abuse, claiming he would harm her mother if she did.

The crime took place on March 19, 2023. Following hospitalisation, the girl confessed to her brother that their father had assaulted her. This led to a police report being filed at the Langhanj police station. The prosecution presented 35 pieces of evidence and testimonies from 12 witnesses during the trial. The court found Bhavaniprasad guilty under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

On April 12, 2024, the court sentenced him to life in prison and imposed fines totalling INR 20,000. Additionally, the court ordered that the victim be compensated with INR 500,000. This case highlights the severe issue of child abuse and the importance of legal protection for minors.

The case has raised awareness about the safety of children in society and the need for parents to monitor their children’s well-being.

In another disturbing incident from Surat, a 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl he met through social media. The girl became pregnant after multiple assaults, highlighting the risks of online interactions for young people. These incidents stress the need for parents to be vigilant about their children’s online activities and to educate them about potential dangers.

Both cases have sparked a debate about child safety and how society can better protect minors from abuse. Authorities are calling for stronger measures to prevent such crimes and ensure that offenders face strict consequences for their actions.
