Vijay Rupani was a prominent leader of the BJP and served as a member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. He took office as the sixteenth Chief Minister of Gujarat on August 7, 2016. Before becoming Chief Minister, he was the state president of the BJP and a member of the Rajya Sabha. Rupani was born on August 2, 1956, in Rangoon, Burma. His family moved to India in 1960, settling in Rajkot. He graduated from Dharmendra Singh College and later earned a law degree from Saurashtra University. Rupani was active in student politics and became a member of the BJP in 1971.
He faced challenges during his career, including imprisonment during the Emergency period in India from 1975 to 1977. He held various positions within the party and served as the Mayor of Rajkot from 1996 to 1997.
