Fire Breaks Out in Tobacco Godown in Unjha

A significant fire erupted at the tobacco godown of M/s Dada Industries on Khatasna Road in Unjha. Flames shot high into the sky, and thick smoke was visible from a distance. Upon receiving the news of the fire, the firefighting team from Mehsana Municipal Corporation rushed to the scene without delay.

Firefighters worked quickly to douse the flames using water sprays. To control the fire effectively, they had to break down the walls of the warehouse with the help of a JCB machine. Unfortunately, a large stock of tobacco and other goods stored in the godown were completely burnt to ashes.

The sight of the fire attracted a large crowd from the surrounding areas. Fire department officials confirmed that there were no reported injuries from this incident.

Unjha is well-known as the largest tobacco market in North Gujarat. The local market yard, Unava, sees a significant influx of tobacco every year, and this year is no different. Farmers have reported a considerable increase in tobacco production, attributed to good rainfall and favourable weather conditions.

In just one day, the market recorded an impressive intake of 100,000 bags of tobacco. This spike in production and sales is expected to continue, with many farmers bringing their harvest to the market.

Despite the increase in tobacco yields, the average prices in the market have not seen a drastic rise. Last year, the price ranged from ₹2,500 to ₹3,251 for 20 kg of tobacco. Currently, prices range from ₹2,700 to ₹3,200 for the same quantity.

Experts believe that if this trend continues, there could be a record-breaking revenue in the upcoming days. Farmers are optimistic about receiving better prices due to the high quality of their tobacco crops.

The Unava market yard is also known for providing immediate cash payments to farmers upon sale, saving them both time and money. This efficiency has made Unava a popular choice among farmers in the region.

As the situation around the fire develops, local authorities will continue to monitor the area to ensure safety and assist those affected by the blaze.
