First COVID-19 Death in Rajkot as State Cases Surpass 1000

Rajkot has reported its first death due to COVID-19. A 55-year-old man died while receiving treatment at the civil hospital. He had been battling the virus for four days. Initially, he was treated at a private hospital before being moved to the civil hospital yesterday, where he unfortunately passed away. The man had pre-existing conditions, including hypertension and diabetes, which were identified just three days before his death.

The number of COVID-19 patients in Gujarat is increasing daily. In Rajkot, nine new cases were reported today, including three women and six men. This brings the total number of COVID patients in Rajkot to 116, highlighting a concerning situation. However, there is some good news: seven patients were declared free of the virus today, indicating that treatment is helping many recover.

According to the state government’s report, as of June 9, there are 1,109 active COVID-19 cases in Gujarat. Out of these, 33 patients are hospitalised, while 1,076 are receiving outpatient treatment. Additionally, 106 patients have been discharged from hospitals. This marks a significant moment as active cases in Gujarat have surpassed 1,000. Yesterday, 235 new cases were reported statewide.

In Rajkot, COVID-19 cases have been steadily rising over the past four days. After three days of recording four cases each day, the health department noted the spike with nine new cases reported today. The infections have spread across multiple wards and areas, with only two of the nine new patients having a travel history. The new cases have emerged in areas like Amin Marg, Shroff Road, Ramkrishna Nagar, and the Race Course, where residents had received two to three doses of the vaccine.

Since May 19, a total of 61 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Rajkot. Of these, 18 patients have recovered at home, while 43 remain under treatment. For the most recent cases, patients aged between 26 and 79 were diagnosed, with the majority not having travelled outside the city recently. Only two cases involved individuals who returned from other locations.

The health department has implemented surveillance and contact tracing in the affected areas. No patients required hospital treatment thus far. The symptoms associated with the Omicron variant are usually mild, including fever, cold, and cough. Health officials have urged the public not to panic but to remain vigilant. They recommend wearing masks in public and using sanitiser to help control the spread.

The situation continues to evolve, and health authorities are monitoring it closely. With the increase in cases, public awareness and adherence to health guidelines are crucial. Vaccination remains a vital tool in combating the virus. The community is encouraged to stay informed and follow safety protocols to protect themselves and others from COVID-19.
