First Round of MDS Admissions in Gujarat Ends with 69 Seats Still Vacant

The first round of admissions for Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) courses in Gujarat for the 2025-26 academic year has finished. However, 69 seats remain unfilled. The Admission Committee for Professional Postgraduate Medical Educational Courses manages this process. Out of 347 candidates on the merit list, 344 took part in the choice-filling round, which ran from July 5 to 8. There were 234 seats available across both government and self-financed dental colleges. Of these, 185 seats have been allotted. This includes 141 seats under the government quota, 22 under the management quota, and 22 under the in-service quota.

Despite these allocations, 69 seats are still vacant. Of these, 40 are under the government quota and 29 under the NRI quota. Candidates who received seats must pay their tuition fees online by July 11, no later than 3:30 PM. They also need to report to their respective colleges or help centres between July 9 and July 12, from 10 AM to 4 PM.

In addition to the MDS admissions, the admissions for the 15% All India Quota seats in medical, dental, ayurvedic, and homeopathy courses in Gujarat are also ongoing. This situation raises concerns about the number of unfilled seats in such a critical field, especially considering the growing demand for dental professionals.

The NEET MDS 2025 counselling process began on June 24, 2025. Candidates interested in the second round of counselling must ensure they are ready, as the process is moving quickly. For those who wish to benefit from the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) reservations, examinations will be held at designated disability centres. The online portal for generating PwD certificates for Round-2 of NEET MDS Counselling 2025 is open until July 15, 2025.

Candidates can check their filled choices on the official DME Gujarat website and prepare for the next steps in the admissions process. The NEET MDS 2025 counselling Round 1 seat allotment result was declared on July 3, allowing candidates to download their seat allotment orders.

Overall, the admissions process is crucial for aspiring dental professionals in Gujarat. The current vacancy in seats highlights the need for more candidates to come forward and fill these essential roles in the healthcare system. With the right support and information, more students may be encouraged to enroll in these vital courses. The education system in Gujarat must adapt to ensure that all available seats are filled in the future, improving access to dental education and services across the state.
