Folk Singer Kajal Maheriya Seeks BJP Ticket for Kadi Assembly Seat

Kajal Maheriya, a well-known folk singer from Gujarat, has expressed her desire to contest the upcoming by-election for the Kadi Assembly seat. This announcement has surprised many as she is seeking a ticket from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Maheriya arrived unexpectedly at the BJP’s office in Mehsana, known as Kamalam, during the party’s candidate selection process. She registered her candidacy and stated her intention to serve the people more if she is given the opportunity.

Kajal Maheriya, who has been associated with the BJP for over 20 years, believes that her experience and connection with the party will allow her to serve her constituents better. During her visit to the BJP office, she presented her biodata to the party leaders. Maheriya expressed her commitment to contribute more significantly to the community if she receives the party ticket. “I have been part of the party for 15 to 20 years. If I get the ticket, my strength to work for the party will increase,” she said.

The Kadi by-election was announced by the Election Commission following the death of the current BJP MLA, Karshan Solanki. This has left the seat vacant, and the by-election is set to take place on June 19, with results announced on June 23. Maheriya’s candidacy adds to the competitive landscape of this election, with over 69 candidates reportedly vying for the BJP’s nomination, while only eight candidates have emerged from the Congress party.

Kajal Maheriya was born on November 21, 1992, in the village of Gothwa in Mehsana district, into a farming family. Her father, Naginbhai, is a farmer. She has gained popularity as a folk singer, known for her performances of traditional songs, bhajans, wedding songs, and garba. Maheriya is also active on social media, boasting 1.9 million followers on Instagram, where she shares her music and connects with fans.

The Kadi constituency is known for its strong support of the BJP, making this seat a crucial battleground for the party. The party has been victorious in Kadi for decades, and former Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel has expressed confidence that the voters will support the BJP once again. “Kadi is a stronghold of the BJP. The voters will give us a massive majority,” he stated.

As the election date approaches, discussions are intensifying about who will be the BJP’s candidate. The party’s selection process involves appointing observers who will visit Kadi to help finalize the candidate. With Kajal Maheriya now in the mix, the dynamics of the contest are likely to change, making it a significant event in Gujarat’s political landscape.

As the by-elections draw near, both BJP and Congress are gearing up for a tough fight, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is also in the fray. The political excitement is palpable as candidates prepare to face the electorate, and Kajal Maheriya’s entry could be a game-changer in the upcoming election. Her background as a folk singer and her long association with the BJP may resonate well with voters, potentially boosting her chances of success in the Kadi constituency.
