Ahmedabad has been shaken by the tragic news of former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani’s death. This was officially confirmed through DNA matching after a plane crash in Ahmedabad. The announcement came from Gujarat’s State Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi early this morning. Upon hearing this news, an atmosphere of mourning has spread across Rajkot and the entire state of Gujarat.
Vijay Rupani was a significant figure in Gujarat politics. He served as the sixteenth Chief Minister of Gujarat from August 7, 2016, until his resignation on September 11, 2021. He was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and represented the western Rajkot constituency in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. His leadership was highly regarded among the people.
Rupani’s body will be brought to Rajkot, where preparations for his final journey are underway. This will be conducted with full political protocol and a guard of honour. Many top leaders and activists from the BJP, including Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and State Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi, have already arrived at his residence in Gandhinagar to express their condolences.
Thousands of people are expected to gather for his final viewing. To manage the crowd and ensure order, the Rajkot Police Commissioner has issued a special notification regarding traffic arrangements.
The route for Rupani’s final journey has been officially announced. It will start from his residence at Prakash Society and proceed to the Ramnathpara crematorium, where his last rites will be performed. An hour before the procession, there will be a complete ban on vehicle entry along the entire route.
The designated route for the final journey includes several key locations in Rajkot: it will leave from the “Pujit” house, passing through Prakash Society Main Road, Nagnath Mahadev Temple, Nirmala Road, Kotecha Chowk, Kalawad Road, Swaminarayan Temple, and many more before reaching the crematorium.
In addition to this route, there will also be entry restrictions for vehicles on roads leading to the Ramnathpara crematorium from different directions. The news of Rupani’s passing has left Gujarat mourning the loss of an experienced and popular leader. Plans are underway to hold prayer meetings in memory of him in both Rajkot and Gandhinagar.
Vijay Rupani was born on August 2, 1956, in Rangoon, Burma, and moved to India with his family in 1960. He became active in politics through the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and later joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the Janata Party. Over the years, he has held numerous positions in the BJP, including party president and member of the Rajya Sabha.
His contributions to Gujarat politics have been significant, and he is remembered for his dedication and service to the people. As the state mourns, the legacy of Vijay Rupani will continue to inspire many in Gujarat’s political landscape.
