In the village of Muwaliya, located in the Dahod district of Gujarat, a young man fell victim to a fraudulent scheme promising him a job in the Indian Army. The scheme involved three unknown individuals who lured him with the promise of an Army job without requiring him to take any examinations. The victim, 33-year-old Sayamalbhai Khimjibhai Bhuriya, transferred a total of ₹6,88,000 through Google Pay to these fraudsters between June 10, 2023, and January 25, 2024.
Sayamalbhai, a resident of Chora Faliya in Muwaliya, was contacted by these individuals using different mobile numbers. They convinced him that they could secure him a job in the Army, and he believed their promises. For three years, he communicated with them, hoping to get a job offer. However, after transferring the money, he realised he had been cheated.
Feeling betrayed, Sayamalbhai approached the Cyber Crime Police Station in Dahod to file a complaint. The police registered a case and have begun legal proceedings against the fraudsters.
This incident highlights the growing issue of online fraud, particularly in job offers. Many people, especially youth, fall prey to scams that exploit their dreams and aspirations. It is essential to be cautious and verify any job offers that require advance payments or seem too good to be true.
